We’re improving the road surface, crossing facilities at junctions and drainage at Restalrig Road, Restalrig Road South and Blackie Road, which includes road resurfacing and pavement works at junctions.
The work will improve driving and walking conditions and enhance road safety.
Working in stages
Work will be done in nine stages starting from 9 March 2026. Sometimes stages may overlap.
We expect work to end in July 2026.
Our contractor will work Monday to Friday, typically between 7am and 7pm.
We will stop work during the Easter break from 3 April to 12 April.
During each phase there will be pavement and drainage work where we'll use parking suspensions, lane closures and temporary traffic lights at junctions.
Project updates
20 May 2026
Restalrig Road and Restalrig Road South
We have completed the pavement and drainage works on Restalrig Road. Carriageway resurfacing is progressing well and is currently in Phase 3.
We expect to complete this phase by Friday and will briefly reopen the road to support the Marathon Weekend on 23 and 24 May.
Phase 4 will start on Monday 25 May, and road closures will resume. Closures will continue through the remaining stages up to Phase 8. The estimated completion date for all remaining phases is 22 July.
Phase 6 - overnight working
A small section of resurfacing on Restalrig Road at the Restalrig Park junction is scheduled to take place overnight. This is expected to last for three nights. Vehicular access to Restalrig Park and the petrol station will be closed during the working hours of 7.30pm to 6.30am. Access for local residents and businesses will remain open during the day. Advance information signs will be erected ahead of the closures to inform locals closer to the time.
Phase 9 - Blackie Road
Localised pavement work at junctions and drainage improvements are estimated to start on 2 June 2026. These works are expected to take about a week and a half. Parking restrictions will be put in place in advance. Please do not park your vehicle in areas marked with yellow cones.
Carriageway resurfacing is estimated to start on 23 July and will be completed by the end of the month. This work will require a full road closure from start to finish.
14 April 2026
We are currently repairing pavements and drainage near Restalrig Circus (Phase 5) under temporary traffic lights. It is estimated that all pavement and drainage works will be completed by mid-May 2026.
Road resurfacing begins on Monday 20 April 2026, starting at the north end of Restalrig Road at the East Hermitage Place junction (Phase 1). To keep the area safe, we will close the road in phases, with all resurfacing expected to be finished by mid-July 2026. This means vehicles cannot drive through Restalrig Road, and traffic will be diverted via Lochend Road and Sleigh Drive.
To help with waste collection, communal bins will be relocated at the end of each phase. If you live on a cul-de-sac, you can access your street outside of working hours (before 7.30am and after 5pm). For information on bus diversions, please check your bus provider’s website.
