Strategic Development Plan

The Strategic Development Plan (SDP) sets out the vision for the long term development of the south east of Scotland area. The plan is produced by SESPlan and covers six local authorities

  • City Of Edinburgh
  • Scottish Borders
  • East Lothian
  • Midlothian
  • West Lothian
  • Southern Fife

The first SDP for the period 2009-2032 was approved by Scottish Ministers in June 2013.

The second Proposed SDP was submitted to Scottish Ministers for examination on 26 June 2017. The examination will consider unresolved representations received during the period of consultation on the Proposed Plan which ran from 13 October to 24 November 2016.   

The examination of the Proposed Plan is external from SESplan and will be administered through the Scottish Government's Planning and Environmental Appeals Division (DPEA).  Updates on the examination will be made on the DPEA website  and also reported on the SESplan website.
