Tenement waste and recycling pilot

Improvements to communal bin collections

We are making improvements to communal recycling bins. This is being tested in two areas of the city. The changes will make it easier to recycle in communal areas. You won’t have to sort paper and packaging because it will all go in one bin. You will be able to recycle a wider range of materials including plastic tubs, pots and trays. Glass bins will also be added to streets where possible.

We are going to pilot the new scheme in two areas. The pilot will run for six months and we hope to roll it out across the rest of the city by March 2017.

Area 1

The streets in the pilot for area 1 are

  • Brunswick Street
  • Brunton Gardens
  • Brunton Place
  • Brunton Terrace
  • Hillside Crescent
  • Hillside Street
  • Montgomery Street
  • Wellington Street
  • West Montgomery Place
  • Windsor Street.

In these streets the current paper and packaging banks will be changed to mixed recycling and will be fitted with a green lid. Where possible we will add a glass bank. There will be no change to shared waste and food waste bins. The blue box collections will stop.

Area 2

The streets in the pilot for area 2 are

  • Bellevue Place
  • Bellevue Road
  • Bellevue Street
  • Bellevue Terrace
  • Claremont Crescent
  • East Claremont Street
  • Melgund Terrace
  • Bellevue Gardens
  • West Annandale Street.

In these streets some of the current side loading waste bins will be used to collect mixed recycling. These will be fitted with a green lid. The paper and packaging banks will be removed. Where possible we will add a glass bank. There will be no changes to food waste collections. The red and blue box collections will stop if you use the shared bins. If you have a wheelie bin for your waste then your service will not change.
