Tenement waste and recycling pilot

Improvements to communal bin collections

We are making improvements to communal recycling bins. This is being tested in two areas of the city. The changes make it easier to recycle in communal areas. You don’t have to sort paper and packaging because it will all go in one bin. You can recycle a wider range of materials including plastic tubs, pots and trays. Glass bins have been added to streets where possible.

We are piloting the scheme in two areas. The pilot will run for six months and we hope to roll it out across the rest of the city later in the year.

Area 1

The streets in the pilot for area 1 are

  • Brunswick Street
  • Brunton Gardens
  • Brunton Place
  • Brunton Terrace
  • Hillside Crescent
  • Hillside Street
  • Montgomery Street
  • Wellington Street
  • West Montgomery Place
  • Windsor Street.

In these streets the current paper and packaging banks have bene changed to mixed recycling and have a green lid. Where possible we have added a glass bank. There is no change to shared waste and food waste bins. The blue box collections have stopped .

Area 2

The streets in the pilot for area 2 are

  • Bellevue Place
  • Bellevue Road
  • Bellevue Street
  • Bellevue Terrace
  • Claremont Crescent
  • East Claremont Street
  • Melgund Terrace
  • Bellevue Gardens
  • West Annandale Street.

In these streets some of the current side loading waste bins are to be used to collect mixed recycling. These now have a green lid. The paper and packaging banks have been removed. Where possible we have added a glass bank. There is no change to food waste collections. The red and blue box collections have stopped if you use the shared bins. If you have a wheelie bin for your waste then your service will not change.
