Idling vehicles

Engine idling

We want to reduce traffic pollution in Edinburgh.

Vehicles emit pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and carbon monoxide (CO) even when they are idling. These toxins are linked to health problems such as asthma, heart disease and cancer.

If you turn your engine off while your vehicle is not moving you will help to make Edinburgh a healthier, cleaner city.

Environmental Wardens can issue a fine of £20 or report a driver to the Procurator Fiscal if they don't switch off their engine when asked to.

If you want to report an engine idling offence, contact us

0131 608 1100 pressing 5 and then 3 for pollution.
