Working in adult social care

Looking for a job

Working in the care profession is highly skilled and satisfying work. We need to attract committed and enthusiastic people to make sure we are providing a first-class service for the city's older population and vulnerable adults. The need for skilled care workers is greater than ever. We want to enable people to stay in their own homes for as long as possible. We also want to make sure fewer people need to go to hospital and to make sure they come home again as soon as they can. You can watch our video to learn more about the work people do.

How to find a job

If you would like to work for us you can see job adverts on the My Job Scotland website. If you can't apply online, please contact the recruitment team using the details at the bottom of the page.

We hold open days and recruitment fairs. You can find out about these in local newspapers. We also run a modern apprenticeship programme for anyone over 16. You may also like to volunteer in social care to gain experience.

Private and voluntary sector agencies are recruiting just now. You can find a list of care agencies in Edinburgh Choices.

If you are a qualified social worker or occupational therapist, there are opportunities to work with us. You might work to meet the needs of older people, or people with disabilities. You might join our teams working in mental health, hospitals, or the criminal justice system. Find out more about becoming a social worker on the SSSC website. If you want to train as an occupational therapist, you can find out more on the COT website.
