Parking Action Plan

Parking controls help to keep traffic on Edinburgh's streets moving smoothly, improve road safety and manage the number of vehicles on our roads.

The main actions the plan includes are to

  • improve parking management at weekends and on Sundays
  • roll out shared use parking places
  • introduce visitors' permits in the city centre.

Please see our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) or email us if you have any questions.

Transport Convener, Councillor Lesley Hinds has also written about the plan and you can read her article on improving parking in Edinburgh.

Following a public consultation on Edinburgh's parking action plan a number of changes were made to the proposals based on your feedback. The final parking action plan was approved by the Transport and Environment Committee on 7 June 2016 and you can download it below. Work on the actions has already started and changes will be introduced gradually over the next few years. Further progress reports will be submitted to Committee and keep you informed of further developments.
