European Passport Return Service

The European Passport Return Service (EPRS) is provided for EEA and Swiss nationals who are applying online using the EEA (QP) or EEA (PR) application forms.

As a participating local authority we can photocopy your EEA or Swiss passport and forward a copy, along with your checklist, accompanying documents and application form, to the Home Office on your behalf.  Your passport will then be available for you to use while your application is being processed.

This service is available by appointment only and you must attend your appointment within five days of submitting your application online, in accordance with Home Office guidelines.

To make an appointment at the City Chambers please contact

0131 529 2600.

The fee for this service is £10 which is payable in advance and no refund will be given.  You will also be charged the relative postage for your application which is payable at the appointment.

Citizenship ceremonies

If your application for British Citizenship is successful you will receive a letter from the Home Office inviting you to attend a citizenship ceremony.  They are conducted within the City Chambers and are held every two weeks, normally on a Tuesday.

In conjunction with Home Office guidelines you will be expected to attend your ceremony within three months of receiving Citizenship.

Documents

When you attend your ceremony you will need to bring the letter of invitation from the Home Office and photographic ID.

What to do now

Contact City Chambers Registration Citizenship to arrange your ceremony on

0131 529 2600.

You can also invite two guests to come along with you.  You will be asked if you wish to make the Oath or the Affirmation of allegiance at the ceremony.

Venue for your citizenship Ceremony

Your citizenship ceremony will be held at:

City Chambers 253 High Street Edinburgh EH1 1YT

On the day

Please arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony to allow you to go through security at City Chambers Reception.

Your invite and photo ID will then be checked by a member of staff and they will explain the procedure of the ceremony.  You will be shown into the ceremony room along with the other new citizens.  During the ceremony each new citizen will swear or affirm an Oath of Allegiance to the Crown and to uphold the values and laws of the UK.

Your certificate will be presented to you and a photograph taken at the time should you agree.

The ceremony is concluded by the playing of the National Anthem of the UK.

You will be invited to join us in some light refreshments and this also gives family and friends time to take some personal photographs.

We hope you enjoy your ceremony and welcome to British Citizenship.

We can also conduct an individual ceremony however, this will incur an extra cost of £105.
