Paid Work Placements - 23 posts - The City of Edinburgh Council - 18421

Contract: Fixed Term - 26 weeks, Salary: £12.69 per hour, Closing Date: 5pm on Wednesday 9 July

Employer:

The City of Edinburgh Council is committed to assisting people within the local area by providing the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge in the world of work through our Job Creation Scheme. This programme offers unemployed people, with barriers to employment, an opportunity to gain paid work experience with the chance of progressing to further employment.

Environment:

Starting in August, you will take a role within a department or school in the City of Edinburgh Council. We can offer different placement opportunities across the Council. If accepted to the programme, we will work with you to find a role that matches your skills, interests and experience. Placements may include areas like:

  • supporting frontline services
  • working with communities
  • delivering digital or business improvements
  • contributing to planning and development projects
  • assisting with customer service or administrative tasks.

These are just examples. Your role could be manual or desk based. It could be outdoor or indoor. It could involve working with people every day or could be a hybrid role where you work from home. There are many different teams and types of work across the Council, and we want to hear what interests you. Your application will help us find the right placement for you.

What might a day in this role look like?

Our team will work with you to decide upon a suitable placement. You will be assigned a mentor from our team and meet your placement manager. You will be offered training where needed and will grow into your role. By the middle of the placement, your duties should be those of any other member of staff.

What will I learn?

You will experience paid work, gain knowledge and skills, and a reference. Our team will support you during your placement with regular check-ins and reviews. We will support you to apply for jobs when the placement comes to an end, either within the Council or elsewhere.

What qualifications/skills are required?

You must:

  • be unemployed (not in work, education or training)
  • live in Edinburgh
  • have the right to work in the UK
  • have one or more recognised No One Left Behind (NOLB) barriers to employment.
