Safe and Together Edinburgh

Domestic abuse is a challenging and common issue for child welfare workers.

Aims

The Safe and Together model is an approach designed to improve our practice and how we work together with families where there is domestic abuse and concerns about children. It helps workers to partner with domestic abuse victims and engage with people who have committed domestic abuse to enhance the safety and well-being of children.

Model details

The model is based on research evidence and has been found to be effective when it has been put into practice in parts of the USA.

In March 2015 and 2017, 90 professionals from a range of agencies in Edinburgh were trained in the model.  The training was supported by the Edinburgh Child Protection Committee. The people who were trained are champions of the model in their neighbourhood. They will use Safe and Together tools when working with families and also provide support and advice to other workers on domestic abuse.
