Home to School transport

The City of Edinburgh Council will provide free Home to School transport to pupils attending primary, secondary or special schools in Edinburgh if the

  • child is attending their catchment school
  • minimum distance criteria is met.  For primary school children the distance to their catchment school should be two miles or over and for secondary school children this should be three miles or over.

Please check your child is attending the catchment school for your home address and enter your home address to find the Non Denomination and Roman Catholic school for your area.

If the criteria is met please complete the Home to School application form below and send to Passengers Operations.

Non Catchment

If through parental choice you have chosen to send your child to a non catchment school the policy of the Council states attendance at a non catchment school requires the parent to be responsible for travel arrangements.  It's not the policy of the Council to give assistance with travel on the basis of parental

  • income
  • health
  • working or social circumstances.

If the criteria is met please complete the Home to School application form below and send to Passenger Operations.

Medical

If your child has a medical condition which would prevent walking to meet the minimum distance criteria, please complete the medical form below.  If your child is not under the care of the Community Child Health, please complete section 3 of the form and submit this with a supporting letter from your child's consultant or doctor on letter headed paper in support of your application on medical grounds.

How to apply for free school transport

You can download the form below or collect a form from the 

  • school office
  • Passenger Operations office.

Forms will need to be completed for each school session this applies to both medical applications and general applications for Home to School transport.  The transport will run from August to July.

In March of each year new forms are available for the next session and should be completed and returned to Passenger Operations by the end of June.  Due to the volume of applications, forms received after this date may not be processed in time for the start of the new school term.
