Working here

Edinburgh skylineWe're a Living Wage employer

(Applies to all employees except Teaching staff.)
We remain committed to paying the Scottish Local Government Living Wage because it aligns with our values and aspirations as an employer.

Your place of work

(Applies to all employees except Casual Workers.)
In terms of Job Mobility, your place of employment can be at any workplace location within the area of the Council. You're not required to work outside the UK.

Other employment

The Working Time Regulations 1998 set out a number of limits on hours that can be worked in a week, including that your weekly hours must not exceed an average of 48 hours per week. To comply with this legislation, you must let your manager know about any additional hours of work you undertake with another employer.

It may be deemed inappropriate for our employees to be involved with an external organisation or its board where the Council has an investment, as this may cause a conflict of interest. If you’re approached by an external organisation, speak to your line manager before forming any agreement.

Local government employees who are Salary Grade 8 or above, are not permitted to undertake other employment without the written approval of their Head of Department.

Membership of a trade union

(Applies to all Local Government and Craft employees.)
We, as your employer, support the system of collective bargaining and believe in the principle of resolving industrial relation issues by discussion and agreement. You have the right to join a trade union and to take part in its activities and the Council encourages you to do so.
