Works commencing on east side of citybound running lane from Annandale Street to London Road

Find out more about the running lane works between Annandale Street and London Road.

UPDATE February 2022: The extension of site lines at Montgomery Street is to accommodate the installation of drainage pipes from Elm Row with the wider public realm works to follow. Due to the number of services found the duration is unknown at present but current arrangements are expected to be in place for approximately 16 weeks.

Over Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 January 2022 traffic management arrangements will be established to facilitate the start of works on the east side of the citybound running lane on Leith Walk from Annandale Street to London Road.  Works are scheduled to start from Monday 17 January 2022 and are expected to be completed in Summer 2022.

These works will require traffic to be diverted onto the newly installed western carriageway including the movement of a temporary bus stop location with pedestrian access. This change is to accommodate further landscaping and surfacing works to be undertaken. View the new arrangements in the diagram below.

The pedestrian crossing point currently located at Haddington Place will be extended through to Elm Row. Pedestrian access next to the temporary bus stop location will connect to this crossing point. Another access point for pedestrians to the temporary bus stop will be located further south on Elm Row. Cyclist diversions remain in place. Details of any bus diversions can be found at www.lothianbuses.com .

Pedestrian footways and access to shops, hospitality and leisure units will always be maintained. Footpath widths will range from 2.0m to 1.5m. However, in some situations this might need to be reduced further, but access will be maintained for members of the public, residents, and local shop owners.

Businesses that are currently occupying the footway will have to remove any arrangements in place to accommodate the works, this includes permit holders for hospitality venues removing all table and chairs while these works are being carried out. Businesses will be visited by project representatives ahead of these changes and any concerns can be further discussed.
