Bernard Street installation of the attenuation pipes

Find out about Bernard Street installation of the attenuation pipes.

On Wednesday 27th October we will be commencing works on Bernard Street for the installation of the attenuation pipes for approximately 16 weeks.

The work site will be extending west on Bernard Street and  will require the closure of Maritime Street at the junction of Bernard Street including parking restrictions on Maritime Street at this location, movement of the pedestrian crossing on the west side and slight adjustments to the traffic flow around the area.

Once the site has been established, works will commence for the installation of the pipes.  These works will consist of ground excavations, utility diversions and the installation of temporary supports to protect utility assets by the use of sheet piles.  The piles will be installed using a vibro piling method which is less intrusive than the traditional hammer method. Piling works are expected to commence the week of 22 November 2021 for approximately 7 days. Noise and vibration will be monitored to ensure that the works are within the limits stipulate within the Code of Construction Practice.

The loading area on Mitchell Street remains for local businesses and residents to facilitate any delivery requirements.  Our Logistic Officers at the Foot of the Walk Logistic Hub will be able to help. You can arrange help in advance directly at the hubs, through our contact centre on 0131 322 1122 or email Newhaven.tram@edinburgh.gov.uk
