Environment:

We are currently seeking applications for Tax Operations Assistants into our Tax Operations Team. Our current way of working supports a hybrid approach and the main base would be Victoria Quay, Edinburgh.

What might a day in this role look like?

Working as part of a team, you will provide administrative support relating to Tax Operations functions. This may include mail, repayments, penalties and recovery of unpaid debts. You will undertake a variety of the following tasks:

  • Update and maintain internal databases (including the tax collection system) relating to all types of tax transactions.
  • Use Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and Microsoft Teams.
  • Answer Support Desk telephone calls on a variety of topics.
  • Prepare and issue correspondence to taxpayers and agents, via post, email, and internal systems
  • Process mail, assigning to correct teams.
  • Learn how to undertake tax return checks and identify any follow up actions.
  • Casework to undertake appropriate penalty and debt action.
  • Handle sensitive and personal information in line with confidentiality rules.

Additionally, you will support colleagues and other team members in carrying out daily work activities as and when new project/tasks arise.

What qualifications/skills are required?

Going Forward Into Employment (GFIE) is only suitable for individuals who would not get through an open and competitive Civil Service recruitment process, due to multiple barriers to employment. Applicants must currently be working with a NOLB service provider to be eligible to apply for a GIFE post.

You should evidence either lack of work experience/qualifications or show that some other circumstance has affected your progress/chances, like caring for a disabled child/parent or another circumstance that has resulted in a large break in in employment.
