Founded 9 years ago by Josh Dow with just a single lawn mower, JDS Gardening now supports 10 full time field staff to deliver commercial grounds maintenance, gardening, tree surgery, and fencing. Our plans for 2024 include expanding our services into waste management and launching an e-commence store. We are a young, ambitious, rapidly growing business. Environment:

We are looking to recruit friendly, motivated individuals with a strong work ethic. You will work in a small team and perform a variety of gardening tasks. The ideal candidates will be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, work effectively within a small team, possess basic knowledge of health and safety, and travel daily to EH16 4UZ as a start and finish point. Experience of gardening/landscaping would be advantageous but is not necessary. Flexibility over the summer period is essential.

Part time or full time positions are available, with an initial probationary period, and then an opportunity to carry on if a “good fit” for the company. This position is a seasonal role; however, as the business continually grows, the opportunity to join the team on a full time basis throughout the winter is a possibility.

What might a day in this role look like?

The duties below form the principal areas of responsibility; however, these may change over time depending on the needs of the business.

  • Undertake work to a high standard; liaise with our clients; take instructions and have a “can do” attitude
  • Operate all garden machinery and tools in a safe and competent manner, operating to the highest industry standard
  • Build rapport with our clients and be able to advise clients on potential improvements from a horticultural perspective.

Key maintenance tasks involve:

  • Strimming
  • Shrub pruning
  • Hedge trimming
  • Lawn mowing
  • Flower bed maintenance
  • Weeding
  • Applying a selection of herbicides.

What qualifications/skills are required?

Qualifications:

  • NC in Horticulture/Landscaping (preferred)
  • HNC in Horticulture/Landscaping (preferred).

Licences:

  • Clean and full driving licence (preferred)
  • PA1 & PA6 (preferred).

Experience:

  • Gardener 0-3 years (required).
