A8 Road Resurfacing and Haymarket Junction Improvements

We plan to carry out improvement works at Haymarket junction and to resurface the main road between the Haymarket Yards and West Coates. This work will be in two phases from 23 October to 11 November

When this work is finished we will be able to reopen Haymarket Terrace to two way traffic and the CCWEL project will be almost complete. There will be localised work sites ongoing up to Christmas but these will be much smaller than our current worksites.

Phase One: 23 October to 3 November

During nightshift we will be installing ducting and traffic islands at the Haymarket Junction which will improve traffic and cyclist safety. This work is relatively minor but has to be done at night due to its proximity to the tram network.

Phase Two:  6 November to 11 November

To allow us to resurface the main road between West Coates and Haymarket Yards the A8 will be closed between Murrayfield Place and Dalry Road from 7pm to 3am throughout this period. Local access for residents will be maintained throughout.

The diversion for all traffic will be via Ravelston Dykes.

Safety and minimising disturbance is our priority

During construction, pedestrian and traffic management measures will be installed and maintained to make sure the work can be carried out safely for everyone, including residents, business and our workforce.

We must maintain safety zones between passing vehicles and construction plant and operatives. Due to the narrow nature of this new section of the A8 doing this without a full closure is impossible.

We appreciate the work will be disruptive but we will endeavour to get the noisiest operations complete before 11pm. Some noise will continue throughout the night however.

We have also been liaising with Lothian Buses and would encourage bus users to regularly check for updates via the following channels.
