Learning and development

To support you as an employee of the City of Edinburgh Council we need you to complete core essential learning which applies to all Council colleagues regardless of their job role. The learning covers our key responsibilities as colleagues and gives us all an understanding of the main Council priorities.

Learn, connect, and collaborate

Once you join you'll be given access to myLearning Hub, our learning experience system.

You'll complete compliance learning and role specific learning on the system but can also explore the other learning resources available, such as how to boost your customer or digital skills or maybe set yourself some goals for your own learning. There's lots on offer for you to browse through.

Role specific learning for services

Role-specific learning aims to help our colleagues further develop the skills and knowledge they require to carry out their role confidently, safely and in line with legal compliance.

Our Learning and Development team work with teams and services across the Council to ensure that role-specific learning is articulated and accessible for all colleagues. They work with service managers and subject matter experts to determine what is considered essential learning for specific roles, then once approved, the learning is assigned to each individual role through myLearning Hub.

New colleagues joining the Council

New colleagues joining the Council should receive a local induction with their manager. As part of their induction, they'll be asked to complete the core essential learning and any learning which has been identified as necessary for their job role. In addition, new colleagues should be signposted to key policies and procedures which are available on our intranet, the Orb.
