Pay
As we are an accredited Living Wage employer paying the Scottish Local Government Living Wage, we guarantee that you will earn more than the National Minimum Wage regardless of the role you choose. See the current pay scales for Local Government employees.
Pension
There are two Council pension schemes
- Local Government Employees' scheme provided by Lothian Pension Fund
- Scottish Teachers Pension Scheme provided by Scottish Public Pensions Agency.
Holidays and leave
Your annual leave entitlement increases dependent on length of service (pro-rated for part-time employees).
- Local Government employees: 27 days plus 6 public holidays.
- Teachers: Full time staff working a standard 35-hour week in a school get 30 days plus 10 public holidays.
- Quality Improvement Officers and Educational Psychologists: 29 days plus 6 public holidays.
- Staff in schools, educational establishments: 23 days plus 10 public holidays.
To help you live a fuller life outside of work we also have special leave, unpaid leave, enhanced statutory entitlement such as maternity and adoption, and employment breaks after two years' service.
Flexible working
One of Our Behaviours is flexibility. We support you if you want to work flexibly by offering part-time working, compressed hours, home working, and flexible retirement. Certain options are role dependent, but we will work through these with you.
