This information will help you prepare for your first day.

What you need to do if you can’t turn up on your first day

If something happens on your first day and you can’t attend work as planned, please contact your manager. You should have their contact details from your recruitment journey.

If you don’t have any contact details for your manager, please call our askHR team on 0131 469 5555 (please choose option 1 to speak to our recruitment team). Tell them the name of your manager and in what area you were supposed to start, and they will let your manager know.

Dress code

At the City of Edinburgh Council we're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

We don’t operate a strict dress code policy but ask that you dress appropriately for your role and working environment, while bringing your authentic self to work.

Depending on your role you might need to wear a uniform and/or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). If this is the case, it will be discussed with you as part of your role.

Please contact your manager if you have any questions about the dress code for your role.

Facilities / desk booking at Waverley Court

Information on the facilities available can be found on our webpages. We have private areas available on-site for prayer and breastfeeding, as well as showers and changing areas.

You need to book a desk for days when you’re working in Waverley Court. Your manager will show you how to do this and the floor plans for the office are available on our webpage.
