How to complete your application on myHR

Current employees must log into myHR and search for and apply for jobs on Opportunity Marketplace. There are two parts to applying as an internal employee.

Please make sure you read this guidance carefully before you apply, as applying as an external candidate will delay your application.

  1. Talent profile: If you've seen a job you're interested in, the first thing you need to complete is your Talent Profile. This pulls through into the job once you start your application. You add your skills and qualifications into your profile.
  2. Job application questionnaire: Once you click on apply on a job you're interested in, you'll be taken to the job's application screen. This is where you'll be asked specific questions about the role and your experience. Hiring managers will review both sections when they screen candidates' applications.

1. How to complete your Talent Profile

You must complete this before you start your job application. Your profile contains your work history and qualifications (similar to a CV) and pulls through to every application.

  1. Log into myHR.
  2. Click on Me.
  3. On the Me page you'll see a tile for Skills and Qualifications, this will take you to a page to enter your skills and qualifications.
  4. You'll also be prompted to complete your profile when you're in a vacancy. When you click on Apply, you’ll see an alert 'Keep your talent profile up to date'.
  5. Click on Update Profile to see what you need to add into your Talent Profile.
  6. A good idea is to prepare the following first in a Word document, so you think about what you want to add in advance
    • work history
    • education
    • registration (General Teaching Council Scotland) or Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC) (if applicable).
  7. When you're ready, click on Update Profile. If you want to copy information from Word or another document, paste as plain text to ensure there are no formatting issues.
  8. You’ll be taken to the Skills and Qualifications page where you can keep your profile up to date. This profile will be visible by hiring managers when they review your application(s).
  9. Your Talent Profile will be saved and will be available for any future jobs you wish to apply for. If you have any new work history or qualifications to add, make sure you review and update your profile before you apply for any further vacancies.

2. How to complete the job application questionnaire

Before you start to answer the questions...

  1. Have a read of them first, then a good idea is to prepare your answers in a Word document, so you've thought about what you want to say.
  2. Then if you want to copy information from Word or another document, paste as plain text to ensure there are no formatting issues.
  3. Complete all of the questions listed on the questionnaire as these are relevant and required to the job you apply for. For example Teaching jobs will have additional questions relevant to teaching roles.

You'll be asked some specific questions on the job application to provide more information in relation to the role you apply for. Example questions on the questionnaire include

  • Please provide details of any relevant training you have undertaken.
  • Please describe your experience, skills, abilities, achievements and responsibilities which are most relevant to the post. You may use examples from, or make reference to, other areas of involvement as well as paid employment.
