Her Majesty the Queen announced the death of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, on Friday 9 April 2021.

Throughout the Duke of Edinburgh’s extraordinary life of public service, he demonstrated great appreciation of and support for Scotland’s capital city and its citizens.  As a former Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, for over 50 years, and the Patron of many Edinburgh-based charities, he won a special place in the hearts of the Scottish people.
