Support for key workers

Summer childcare hubs

We are providing as much key worker support as possible.

There will be P1 to S2 childcare for key workers across the city from Monday 29 June until Friday 7 August.

Parents are eligible for support if they are working directly to support the national effort to reduce Coronavirus and only where both parents/adults in the household are unable to provide or arrange alternative childcare.

On the Scottish Government’s Parent Club website it states: “The Scottish Government is asking employers to be flexible with employees who are currently unable to return to work, working from home or are working under different arrangements due to childcare commitments.” So we would request that you discuss with your employer how you can work from home or alter your shift pattern to also allow for childcare before applying for a place.

Check if you're a key worker

There will be 6 summer hubs across the city:

  • Craigroyston Community High School
  • Firrhill High School
  • Holy Rood High School
  • James Gillespie’s High School
  • Queensferry Primary School
  • St Augustine’s High School

The hubs will be run by Communities and Families staff who are experienced in:

  • education
  • lifelong learning and childcare, including libraries, sports and arts

The leadership of each hub will be experienced Communities and Families managers. All staff working in the hubs have PVG clearance.

If you are a key worker and wish to apply for childcare support during the summer, please complete the survey below for your preferred location - only choose one hub.

Applications should only be submitted by parents/carers already eligible for places.

Special School Hubs

There will be one special school hub for parents and carers who are key workers whose children attend special schools. This will be at Braidburn School.

If you are a key worker and you child attends a special school, you will have been contacted by the headteacher of your child’s school. This is subject to the same eligibility criteria as above:

Parents are eligible for support if they are working directly to support the national effort to reduce Coronavirus and only where both parents/adults in the household are unable to provide or arrange alternative childcare.  The Scottish Government is clear that parents who are now being requested to return to their place of work should make their own childcare arrangements within the community.

If you meet the criteria for key worker Summer holiday provision and you have not been contacted by the headteacher of your child’s school, please contact the headteacher in the first instance.

Special school Summer holiday key worker provision will be 9am - 3pm each day.

Early Years Hubs

Early Years provision is currently available in 26 hubs. Summer provision will be confirmed following further guidance from the Scottish Government.

Please contact the Early Years team by email if you are a key worker and still require childcare for a child under five-years-old during June.

If you need to rely on public transport please consider the reduced bus service currently available.

Complete key worker childcare survey for Summer holidays

The Summer hubs are provided from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday. This includes a free lunch of soup and sandwiches.

Please complete one survey per child.

If your childcare requirements change after you have completed this form, please fill it in again and we will use your most recent submission.

If you do not wish to apply for Summer childcare please do not fill in this survey.

We will confirm places at the Summer childcare hubs by email once your application has been processed and approved.
