Presentation seats, tree donation and adoption scheme

Please note that our Presentation Scheme is closed for 2024 and will be reopened for new applications in January 2025.

Once the scheme is open, you will be able to donate a black, galvanised metal seat in memory or celebration of a loved one or special occasion. Seats can be sited in most of our parks, walkways and on some city streets. The metal seat costs £2,525.00 which includes

  • the plaque
  • the inscription
  • installation
  • maintenance for 20 years.

Please note that wooden presentation seats are now only available for Lauriston Castle Gardens, Saughton Park Walled Garden and when space becomes available at the City Chambers Quadrangle and Princes Street Gardens. The cost of a wooden seat is £5,045.00, which covers the same elements as the metal seat.

If a seat is damaged beyond repair during the 20 years, the cost of a replacement is the donor's responsibility.

Please be aware that the presentation seat must not be used as a memorial ie; placeing flowers, photographas and other items of commemoration.

You will be donating the seat for the use of the public and the seat will remain the property of the City of Edinburgh Council throughout the 20-year period.

Tree Time

Tree Time is a pilot initiative led by the Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council and the Woodland Trust Scotland.  Its aim is to increase and maintain Edinburgh's trees by offering a way of commemorating a loved one's life, marking a child's birth, celebrating a special anniversary or just to show how much a person cares about trees and Edinburgh as a place.

Choose how much you want to donate and you will be sent a personalised certificate or if you adopt a tree or donate toward a new tree being planted, a personalised plaque will be added.

Go to the Tree Time website for more information.
