Free garden trees
Free Trees, part of the Million Tree City initiative, is a new scheme which allows Edinburgh residents to pick up a free tree for their garden. The aim is to encourage Edinburgh residents to plant 55,000 trees in their gardens by 2030. We've teamed up with
- Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust
- The Woodland Trust
to help to deliver this scheme. We've already distributed 1,000 trees from February to March 2023. We are now distributing 9,000 more trees in the tree planting season from November 2023 to March 2024.
If you live in Edinburgh, you can come along to a tree collection event where you can pick up a free tree. The team will also give you guidance on how to plant and maintain your new tree or you can find information on the Woodland Trust website.
You will be able to pick up one of these tree species
- Alder
- Silver Birch
- Downy Birch
- Hazel
- Wild Cherry
- Bird Cherry
- Rowan.
