There are plans in place to evacuate any part of the city if there is a major incident.
To help the emergency services deal with an incident in the city centre, the area has been divided up into zones. Some of our documents are not fully accessible. For help, please email resilience@edinburgh.gov.uk.
If a large scale evacuation is needed, the Police will coordinate this and will alert people through
- local media
- roadside message boards
- radio systems in shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs
- public address systems in shopping centres, bus and railway stations.

Hogmany street party
For the hogmanay street party, the event has separate evacuation plans in place. In this case please follow the advice displayed on the arena PA system and large screens as well as event stewards.
