Advice and support for businesses

The Scottish Government has issued guidance for businesses in Scotland on social distancing, including the closure of all retailers that sell non-essential goods and other non-essential premises.

Business rates

The Scottish Government has announced several changes to non-domestic rates for the financial year 2020/21 to help businesses deal with the impact of COVID-19. We’re working with our partners to implement these changes as a priority.

Coronavirus Business Support Fund

You can apply online for the £10,000 Small Business Support Grant and the £25,000 Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Support Grant.

If you feel that your property should qualify for a grant as it is broadly similar but not one of the specific property types listed, please still complete the form and we’ll assess your eligibility.

We will start making payments from 6 April 2020. We’ll be processing applications in batches and will be contacting Grant Applicants directly by email to let them know when we are processing and paying their application.

The Council and its partners are working with employers to avoid job losses where possible. If you have lost your job or are worried that you might, we can help you.

Licensing

We’ve granted a three month extension for licence holders in the city whose renewals were due from 16 March to help them through this extremely difficult time. This covers those holding taxi, private hire car, civic and Housing of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) licences.
