Waste and recycling service - Coronavirus update

Bin collections and recycling centres

We’re working hard to keep our bin services running and have put plans in place to allow us to continue to run our highest priority collections. A number of our other services remain suspended, but we are already working up plans to re-introduce those as soon as we are confident that we can provide a reliable and safe service.  We’ll update these pages regularly with advice and any further service changes. We really appreciate your patience and support.

To ensure the safety of our crews and protect the public, we’re following national physical distancing guidance and have reduced the number of people allowed in the cab of bin lorries. This, in addition to staff shortages during the Coronavirus outbreak, means more waste operatives and lorries are needed to focus on collecting other types of waste which would become a public health hazard if they are left uncollected for example, non-recyclable grey wheelie bins / black lidded communal bins and food waste.

Services that are continuing to operate may also be running later than normal. If you see our crews in the street, please keep a safe distance from them of at least two metres. You should also wash your hands before and after putting your bin out for collection. This is to protect them and you. Please visit the Scottish Government’s website for advice on physical distancing.
