The purpose of a short break is to support carers to have a life outside of / alongside their caring role. A short break should also help to support your health and wellbeing and be planned around what is important in your life.
Arranging a break from caring or respite
Many carers value a short break from caring. You can search for breaks from caring and respite providers below. You can find out who they can care for and what kind of service they provide.
Other ways to have a break
As well as a few days stay in a residential or nursing home, we can offer
- flexible sitter services in your home or community
- a Direct Payment to let the person cared for buy services they choose
- access to a range of day services for older people
- residential weekend breaks for carers, provided by Care for Carers.
How to arrange a break
To arrange a break, you need to contact Social Care Direct. The option we offer you will depend on the needs and preferences of the person who is cared for. The person you care for will usually need to have an assessment to get an allowance which they can spend on a short break.
