Policy statements for cremation at Mortonhall

The cremation policy was first approved in February 2015. This sets out the range and quality of service that the bereaved can expect from Mortonhall Crematorium, and outlines our commitment to deliver to these standards.

Scottish Government policy and code of practice

The Scottish Government policy statement relating to the cremation of babies and infants was developed in response to the recommendations of Lord Bonomy’s Infant Cremation Commission and sets out a clear standard approach for each cremation authority in Scotland for this sensitive process.

This statement was developed with the support of the

  • Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management,

The Scottish Government’s National Committee on Infant Cremation developed and approved a policy statement on infant cremation. Elements of this policy are incorporated in our policy statement.

The Scottish Government National Committee on Infant Cremation code of practice sets out the principles and standards for organisations conducting infant cremations, as agreed by the National Committee on Infant Cremation on 4 December 2015.
