Direct Debit

  • By choosing to sign up by Direct Debit you can register once, then relax knowing that you won’t miss another registration window as long as you have sufficient funds available when payment is due.
  • If you choose to register for an annual Direct Debit it will automatically renew your subscription each year. The first payment will be taken within 7 days of you registering, and future payments will be taken on or shortly after 1 August each year.
  • When you set up a Direct Debit, you will recieve several notifications, as it progresses through the banking systems.  These will advise you that the direct debit is being set up, that it will renew annually, and when the payment is taken. You don't need to respond to these.

Cancellations 

If you have registered for direct debit, you can cancel future payments any time up until 10 working days before the next payment is due to be taken. You can do this by sending an email with your details to gardenwaste@edinburgh.gov.uk. If you cancel within 14 days of a payment being taken you will receive a full refund. After you have received confirmation from us that your direct debit has been cancelled you should also inform your bank. 

Direct Debit Guarantee

By signing up for Direct Debit you are protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee.

This Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits.

If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit GoCardless Ltd will notify you 3 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request GoCardless Ltd to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request.

If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit, by GoCardless Ltd or your bank or building society, you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society

If you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when GoCardless Ltd asks you to.

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify us.
