About us

Working for Families is a Scottish Executive funded initiative which aims to tackle poverty and worklessness by ensuring that childcare is not a barrier for parents on low income and parents with other stresses in the household.

Edinburgh is one of the Phase 2 local authorities in receipt of Working for Families funding for 2006/08.

Working for Families aims to support the most disadvantaged parents in the city and in particular to support:

WFF can support parents who are in employment and want to sustain their employment or change jobs, improve hours or earnings.

There are four key projects being delivered in Edinburgh:

Adviser Service for parents - 1 to 1 key worker support and funds to help eligible parents/carers.
Make it Work for Families - public sector training and work experience programme.
Childcare Provision Support Fund - grants to support delivery of flexible childcare services.
Employer Engagement Campaign - focus on support to employees in the workplace.

Partnership working

We recognise the importance of working closely with a wide range of organisations and services. Many parents that register with WFF will be referred to specialist agencies for advice and help. We also welcome the opportunity to meet up to discuss how our service can complement or add value to existing services.

Our ongoing work with parents, carers and families helps to inform our activities to ensure that we provide the best possible service for our customers. If you have any comments or would like further information on Working for Families, please contact us.
