About Waste Aware EdinburghWaste Aware Edinburgh aims to change public attitudes and behaviour towards waste. The campaign has been developed following an award of £83.3 million from the Scottish Executive’s Strategic Waste Fund. The recycling rate for household waste in Edinburgh currently stands at 16.1%. More than 25,000 tonnes of waste was recycled or composted during 2003/04. However, the amount of waste produced in Edinburgh will keep rising due to the growth of the city and the increase in smaller households. To reduce the amount of waste going to landfill, householders need to reduce, reuse and recycle more waste.
