City of Edinburgh Council

Public Realm

Edinburgh's capital streets project aims to breathe new life into the city centre and make the most of previously underused public space. By using the highest quality materials, the project will accentuate the city's historical features while creating a contemporary urban landscape.

The theme in all of the capital streets projects is giving greater priority to pedestrians while maintaining essential access for motorists. The improved city centre spaces will provide more opportunities for outdoor events, a move that's proved successful in other major cities for delivering economic benefits to shops and local businesses.
