At 1.2 parking tickets issued per hour per parking attendant,
Edinburgh has one of the lowest ticket issue rates in the
UK.
About 20,000 tickets have been cancelled in Edinburgh as
a goodwill gesture to motorists (first-time offences) who
had not clearly displayed a pay & display voucher.
There is a give-minute grace period after a pay & display
voucher expires before issuing a ticket.
In busy areas, parking regulations ensure residents can
park near their homes, people with disabilities can park
close to their destinations, and parking spaces near shops
where turnover of space is needed.
64% of Edinburgh residents believe that parking and loading
restrictions should be strictly enforced (MORI Household
Survey, Autumn 2005).
The majority of people, when questioned after visiting the
city centre by car, said it was easy or very easy to park.
In contrast, when people were asked in a telephone survey,
most had the perception that parking is inadequate and that
it is difficult to park.
