Dementia Awareness Campaigns

The dementia campaign is led by a partnership of City of Edinburgh Council, NHS Lothian and ALzheimer Scotland.

Phase one of Edinburgh's dementia campaign aims to help people recognise the signs of dementia

Around 80 people from support organisations and individuals with dementia and their carers attended an event to mark the launch of the first phase of the campaign in February 2014 at the Drumbrae Hub.

The campaign focuses on:

  • raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of dementia
  • encouraging poople to get a diagnosis and access support and help available

A new post diagnostic support service offering one year of support to people with a recent diagnosis of dementia was also launched.

Promotional channels 

The campaign used advertising, posters, leaflets, beermats and postcards to get the message across. Channels used included:

  • bus shelters
  • adverts on bus sides
  • beer mats in pubs throughout the city
  • ads on local radio
  • roadshow events
  • posters in pubs and social club toilets, GP surgeries, community venues, hospitals
  • social media
