Live Well Services and Activities for Older People

Local Opportunities for Older People (LOOPS)

There are over 2,000 activities and events taking place in Edinburgh every week that can be accessed by older people. However, many people remain isolated, they may not know what is available to them or may lack the confidence to take part. Loneliness has been shown to be as harmful to long-term health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. It can also put people at risk of developing dementia, high blood pressure and depression.
The aim of LOOPs is to improve communication and signposting between the statutory, independent and voluntary sectors and develop new ways of reaching isolated older people and encouraging them to connect with things going on in their community.

Since early 2014:
• LOOP Networks have been established in each of the Health and Social Care quadrants
• LOOPs phoneline
• Navigators

See Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council webpage for further information and how to get involved.
