Live well in later life - people

The City of Edinburgh Council and its partners are working to improve services for older people. THe programme of work is called 'Live Well in Later Life', a name chosen by older people living in Edinburgh.

The Live Well in Later Life plan outlines the partnership's vision for the next ten years. It explains how we will improve services and support to enable people to live well in their own homes and to support unpaid carers. The plan is based on the things that older people tell us are important, including:

  • Most older people want to live independently in their own homes and communities for as long as possible.
  • Staying connected to family and friends is important to people and has an impact on health and wellbeing.
  • People need to be able to access suitable housing.
  • Good quality care needs to be available to people whether they are at home, in care homes or in hospital.

The Change Fund for Older People has provided around £26m additional investment to support services and projects for older people in the community. Find out more about how this money has been used and what it has meant for older people in Edinburgh.
