Live well in later life

‘Live Well in Later Life’ is Edinburgh’s strategy for older people’s health, wellbeing and care.
Edinburgh’s population is changing. People are living longer and this provides many benefits for the city. Many older people care for family members and friends, volunteer, support local community activities and contribute experience and skills to city life.

However, with increasing age there is also an increase in the number of people living with long-term conditions, disabilities and complex needs. The number of people in the 85+ age group is expected to almost double in the next 20 years.

Services for older people need to change to meet the changes in demand and also the changing preferences of older people. We aim to give people more choice and control over the care and support they receive and to ensure that health and social care services are of high quality, are joined up and are focused on individuals.
