On this page you can find out about a project to make the most of the Royal Mile.
The Royal Mile is a unique and extraordinary street. It is both steeped in history and full of life. It is home to a castle, a palace, a parliament, a cathedral, law courts, city chambers, museums, gardens, businesses, homes, shops, restaurants, pubs and hotels. How many other streets can you think of that have so many different things in one place?
The Royal Mile Project focuses on supporting and promoting the things that are great about the street, and improving the things that aren’t working as well as they could be. Together with the people who use the street, we identified four main aims that will help make it work better for everyone who uses it:
- Better for pedestrians and cyclists
- Safe, clean and well-maintained
- A good place to live
- A diverse retail offer
The Royal Mile Action Plan explains how we can achieve this, by setting out a range of different projects for the Council and others to develop.
The project team has staff from Planning, Economic Development, Neighbourhoods, Roads, Community Safety, and Transport. We are working to develop and deliver the projects in the Action Plan. You can contact us onRoyalMileProject@edinburgh.gov.uk.
