The Pentland Hills Regional Park offers a great
many choices of routes for you to enjoy. Each season in the hills has
its own characteristics and no visit fails to stimulate your senses
or revive your spirit!
The Pentland Hills has a fascinating history and much is locked up in
the eclectic mix of place names. You'll discover these as you plan and
enjoy your hill walks. Check out our list of place names and their meanings:
Pentland
Place Names (word document, 39K).
Four waymarked routes are available. Follow the signs on posts around
the route and pick up the trail leaflets to get the most out of your
walk.
Capital View Walk
From Hillend look out for the Castle posts for a fairly strenuous
3 mile walk. Take in the magnificent views across the Edinburgh and
the Firth of Forth.
Glencorse View Walk
From Flotterstone Visitor Centre follow the Heron marked post. An easy
walk takes you along the Glencorse burn to the reservoir. Watch out
for bird life on the way. Great in any season.
Harlaw Woodland Walk
From Harlaw House Centre. Follow the Squirrel marked posts 2 miles around
the reservoir. Enjoy a variety of woodland scenes. Especially alive
in Spring and Autumn.
Torduff Water Walk
This walk starts at Bonaly Country Park for a short 2-mile route around
moorland and reservoirs. Torduff reveals much of its Victorian legacy
and water birds are regularly seen. Don't fail to check out the magnificent
view across Edinburgh and beyond on the return trip!
Take a Hike! And Take the Bus! Many Pentland walks are accessible
from bus stops. Why not leave the car at home for a change. Just hop
