Top global skincare brand announces new home at Assembly Rooms Edinburgh

Published Wednesday 20 June 2012

This summer, Assembly Rooms Edinburgh reopens on George Street, and it’s looking more stylish than ever before.

As a very fitting complement to the Grade A-listed building's gold leaf, crystal chandeliers and new Jamie's Italian restaurant, it has been announced that Kiehl's Since 1851, the venerable New York purveyor of fine quality skin and hair care formulations, is moving into the building with its largest freestanding store in Europe.

Kiehl's Since 1851 will be opening on Friday 13 July 2012, in one of the two original retail units either side of the Assembly Rooms entrance on George Street.

Councillor Richard Lewis, Culture and Leisure Convener for the City of Edinburgh Council, said: "The restoration of the Assembly Rooms to its original splendour is a real boon for Edinburgh and for George Street in particular. George Street is already one of the Capital's prime retail destinations and the refurbished Assembly Rooms will entice even more people to visit, shop and spend time in the area. From July, Assembly Rooms Edinburgh will be somewhere people will come for a marvellous dining experience or to shop, as well as for a packed year-round calendar of events. Today's announcement of this fantastic new retailer adds another high profile brand to George Street.  There is no doubt that Kiehl's Since 1851 will be a big draw, and we look forward to welcoming the store to Edinburgh next month."

Victoria Campbell, General Manager of Kiehl's UK, said: "We were really keen to have a presence in Scotland and it's appropriate that our largest European store will be in one of Europe's most famous capitals.  Not only is George Street a magnificent location and Assembly Rooms Edinburgh a landmark building, we are also joining an impressive list of stylish retailers that are a great fit with our ethos of excellence and quality."
