Consultation begins on options for Boroughmuir High School
Published Monday 20 February 2012
The City of Edinburgh Council today (20 February) announced the start of a statutory consultation on the future location of Boroughmuir High School.
Two options will be under consideration; to build a new High School at Fountainbridge, or to refurbish and extend the existing building at Viewforth.
The Council bid for the Fountainbridge site as a possible location for the new school, and was successful in acquiring the land from Lloyds Banking Group in December 2011. A new build at Fountainbridge is the Council's preferred option.
The following public meetings have been organised to hear feedback from the school community and other interested parties:
Boroughmuir St Oswald's Hall 5 March 7pm
Buckstone Primary School 6 March 7.30pm
South Morningside Primary School 13 March 7.30pm
Bruntsfield Primary School 14 March 7.30pm
City Education Leader, Councillor Marilyne MacLaren, said: "It is absolutely vital that parents and the wider local community have their say about this very important project. We want to make sure that we provide the best possible learning environment for our young people and that our schools are well equipped to deliver the highest standard of education in the future.
"Our decision on Boroughmuir High School will be informed by the responses we receive, so I would urge as many people as possible to play an active part in this consultation."
The consultation process will take place from Monday 20 February to Friday 30 March, you can access the consulation online and comments in writing will also be welcomed.
An artists impressions is available for both options A and option B.
