Have your say on outdoor advertising

The City of Edinburgh Council is reviewing its planning guidance on outdoor advertising.

Stakeholders and members of the public are being asked for their views to help to inform new guidance, which is due to be published in early 2019.

The consultation, which will run until 14 September, is asking people what types of outdoor advertising are acceptable, where it is suitable, as well as what they think about more adverts changing to become digital.

Views gathered after the consultation will help to inform the new planning guidance which will go to the Planning Committee on 12 December for approval. When approved it will be used to assess new outdoor advertising applications going forward.

Cllr Neil Gardiner, Planning Convener, said: “It is really important that we review this policy to ensure it is up-to-date and reflects the changing demands of the advertising industry.

“Getting the balance right between advertising and protecting the integrity of the city is really important. We will be reaching out to key stakeholders and having detailed discussions with them to obtain their views. I would really encourage anyone interested to fill out our easy to use questionnaire so we can also gather public opinion.”
