City of Edinburgh Council

Urban Room opens its doors

Published Thursday 10 June 2010

Jenny Dawe, Leader of the City of Edinburgh Council, officially opened the Urban Room last night.

A new space dedicated to encouraging discussion about architecture and design and based in the reception of the Council's HQ on Market Street, it will be used for lectures, exhibitions and meetings that have a relevance to 'place making' in the city.

The idea of creating such a space was first discussed back in 2008 when the court yard of the City Chambers was used as a temporary space to house Sir Terry Farrell's 12 Challenges to the City. This was so successful that the Council was keen to ensure that a permanent urban room was delivered.
