Edinburgh is best of British in new survey
Council Leader, Cllr Jenny Dawe, responds to a new poll ranking Edinburgh as the most popular travel destination in the UK – and 21st in the world…
"This result is further great news for the city and confirms what we all know - Edinburgh is a great place in which to live, work, invest and visit.
"The city truly has the best of everything; historic buildings and great atmosphere, a vibrant leisure and retail offering, abundant green space, outstanding schools and universities - the list goes on. Little wonder, then, that people continue to think of Edinburgh as a must-visit location."
The poll for travel review website TripAdvisor ranked Edinburgh as best of British, beating off other UK cities such as Brighton, York and London - who polled just behind Edinburgh in the UK table but failed to make the top 25 world destinations.
Emma O'Boyle, spokesperson for TripAdvisor: "Millions of travellers around the world have spoken and it's fantastic to see Edinburgh recognised as the world-class tourist destination it is.
"Edinburgh has so much to offer travellers, from its rich history and fantastic shopping to the UNESCO World Heritage site in the heart of the city. Edinburgh was also rated among the top destinations in the world for nightlife according to the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Destination Awards and reviews consistently praise the friendliness of locals."
And, Alan Johnston, Chair of Destination Edinburgh Marketing Alliance added: "This confirms what we already believe to be true, Edinburgh is a fantastic city that competes on a truly global scale. It is the combination of Edinburgh's history and heritage with the creative, vibrant and cosmopolitan aspects of the city that make it a truly inspirational place to visit."
