The ‘Wealth of Reading’ promotion will run in all libraries across the area from 7 July to 30 September and has been designed to celebrate reading and the Commonwealth.

The promotion, funded by the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC), will encourage adults to read more by promoting authors and books linked to Commonwealth countries, such as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Half of a yellow sun and Christos Tsiolkas The Slap.

Councillor Richard Lewis, Convener of Culture and Sport said: “The ‘Wealth of Reading’ collection includes some hugely talented writers from around the world and features many wonderful places and characters from Commonwealth countries.  I would encourage people to come along and pick up something new to read.”

“Reading can open up a whole world of imagination and libraries are a great place for people to get more involved in books.

Readers can also win a brand new tablet computer by submitting a review of a book they have read from the ‘Wealth of Reading’ collection at their local library.
