Recruitment drive to showcase Edinburgh's world leading technology sector

A jobs fair, organised by the City of Edinburgh Council, is being attended by 13 of the city’s leading technology companies including Skyscanner, in London tomorrow (Friday, 21 March).

The Tech Jobs Scotland event will showcase Edinburgh’s world leading technology sector, which is on look out for new talent. The companies attending are offering those who chose to move north a change in lifestyle and the opportunity to be part of this fast growing sector in Scotland.

Cllr Frank Ross, Economy Convener, said: “There is a real buzz in Edinburgh’s tech sector, which was recently highlighted by Tech Britain as the UK’s third largest. Our world class universities are turning out talented graduates every year and many of them are joining businesses in the city or setting up their own. To keep the industry growing  at or ahead of it's current rate, we need to increase the flow of fresh talent coming into Edinburgh.

"However, it’s equally important to attract experienced individuals if Edinburgh’s start-ups are to be turned into world leading companies and emulate the success of Skyscanner and Fanduel.

“The event in London is a perfect opportunity to attract all levels of talent.”

“We support existing tech companies through our Business Gateway and employability programmes. We also run business incubators that are linked together through a programme we support called 'Interspace', which enables the incubators to feed off each other.”

Jamie Coleman of CodeBase who is speaking at the event, said: "With major companies like SkyScanner, Amazon, FanDuel and Freeagent alongside the most significant computing science department in Europe, the Edinburgh tech scene is one of the most exciting ecosystems to work. "
