A Family Tradition - Schools Open Day 2012
Councillor Paul Godzik today met with Prestonfield Primary pupil Eilidh Thomson (9), whose late Grandfather, Father and siblings have all attended the school.
Eilidh, along with her Grandmother, met Cllr Godzik to review the registers which recorded the two previous generations of family who attended the school.Councillor Godzik visited the school to help raise awareness of this week's Primary School's Open Day - a first for the Council. Eilidh's late Grandfather William and her Father Gavin both attended the school before her.
Councillour Godzik was given a sneak preview of what will be on offer when the school opens its doors to parents later in the week.
All primary schools will be open this Thursday, 27 September for parents with pre-school age children to have a look around and learn more about their catchment school. Almost every Primary School in Edinburgh is welcoming parents and their children to come and visit between 10am and 3pm.
Councillor Paul Godzik, Education Convener said: "We're encouraging parents to go along and see their local catchment school for themselves this Thursday. It's a fantastic opportunity to pop in and have a look around and see it in operation. Staff will be on hand to show-off some of the great work taking place at schools throughout the city.
"I would encourage all parents with pre-school age children to come along and find out more about their child's potential future school. Sending children to their local school can have many benefits for parents, children and the community where they live.
"Like Eilidh's family, you never know, you might be starting a tradition of your own!"
Any parents with children under primary school age are welcome to attend and parents who may be thinking of moving into an area may also find it useful.
Further information on catchment schools and the Open Day can be found on the Council's website.
