Litter and street cleaning
On 26 September, we're moving to a new system for holding your information. As part of that, your historical reports, requests and payments (which the exception of any garden waste subscriptions) will no longer appear on your 'myaccount' page.
However, we will still continue to hold this information for you - should you need access to it, you can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Litter prevention action plans
Zero Waste Scotland has a new initiative to tackle litter at the source and reduce its impact on the community. Businesses and organisations are encouraged to develop litter prevention action plans and will receive support to deliver their plans. Find more information and other ways to help tackle litter.
Overflowing communal bins
We don't collect extra rubbish beside household bins or empty overfilled bins when the lid can't be easily shut. See our extra waste policy for further information.
Overflowing litter bins
Please report an overflowing litter bin by calling
0131 608 1100
and choosing options 1 when prompted, then 2 and then 2.
Dropping litter is an offence in Scotland. Anyone dropping litter could receive a Fixed Penalty Notice of £80. If this is not paid a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
A Street Litter Control Notice may sometimes be used to ensure the owner of a premises keeps an area around their premises clear of litter.
A Litter Control Area can be declared if private land is badly littered and the public have access for example a shopping centre car park. This means the owner or person using the land has a duty to clear the land and keep it free of litter.
