Becoming a Lay Diversity Adviser

The Police Board recently ran a recruitment campaign for Lay Diversity Advisers. The closing date for applications was Wednesday 15 February 2012.

If you are interested in becoming a Lay Diversity Adviser but did not apply during the recruitment campaign, you can register your interest for future recruitment by sending an email to policeboard@edinburgh.gov.uk or calling the Police Board on 0131 529 4240.

Who can be a Lay Diversity Adviser?

You can put yourself forward as a volunteer as long as you are over 18 years old. No formal qualifications are necessary. Lay Advisers are appointed by the Police Board for an initial three year period. This can then be extended for a further three years.

Restrictions to becoming a Lay Diversity Adviser: 

Lay Diversity Advisers can NOT be:

  • serving police officers (including the special constabulary) or working within the criminal justice system
  • members of the Police Board or Justices of the Peace
  • MPs, MSPs or local authority councillors

or have been:  

  • convicted of a serious offence within the last 5 years
  • to prison
